The St George Rowing Club promotes rowing within the St George, Sutherland and Illawarra region. It is the only rowing club in southern Sydney and has access to some of the best rowing conditions in the Sydney region from the boat house in Como.
The boatshed provides excellent training and rowing facilities for all standards of rowing. The facilities include a fully maintained boatshed, a fleet of modern boats, modern strength training gymnasium and professional coaches who are qualified and experienced.
The club aims to be a successful, community based rowing club. The sport of rowing should be fun and fulfilling for all involved. As such St George has a broad range of athletes, some over 80 years old, some representing Australia at the Olympics and World Championships, some hoping to do so in future years and some just starting out and hopefully finding how much fun training and racing in boats can be.
We aim to help an individual progress within the sport as far as their ability and time allows.
Programs are available for all individuals interested in rowing.
Introduction to Rowing is open to all individuals interested in giving rowing a try. The program is run most Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00am to 10:00am. The cost is $50 (including GST) for the first 6 sessions. The course is designed to introduce novices to the sport in a safe and fun environment. If you like the sport (and we hope you will) then you will be guided towards one of our other squads at the end of the course.
Junior Development Squads are open to individuals aged between 14 and 18. This program is supervised and co-ordinated by our experienced coaches. This program develops and prepares the juniors for competition against their peers. This group will start training 3 or 4 times each week, progressing to greater commitment and moving towards the senior squad.
Senior Squads are open for experienced athletes wishing to prepare and compete at club, state and national levels of competition. This program is supervised and co-ordinated by our experienced coaches. This squad will train over 12 times per week in peak season.
Masters Rowing Program This program is for those athletes aged 30 or older wishing to row for masters competition. The programme has a dedicated professional coach and this group is also welcome to join in the general club training and time trial sessions.
School Rowing Programs Designed specifically for schools to provide rowing as an activity to their students. Purpose built craft and full supervision ensure the safety of the students.
